Statement:    “People  often value  paintings of a place they have visited because they need to feel a connection with it.  They want to be reminded of where they have been.

Lots  of  people  have  a  longing  to  be  by  the  sea.  The freedom  of  being  by  the coast.  The sounds, the smells, the  sensation  of  being  healthy  and  alive. I  want my landscapes  to  share  in that sensation, but I don’t simply want  to  offer  up  a  superficial representation.  There’s a challenge   involved in  my  work. With  every  canvas  I attempt, I am searching for something.  There’s a sense of journey involved.

Beyond   simply   looking   at   my  paintings  and  gaining aesthetic pleasure, I do think it’s important that they offer up space for thought.”     Colin Carruthers 2008
