Belfast based
artist Jonny McEwen works with acrylic on canvas evoking Irish
landscapes, urban spaces, boglands, beaches and distant horizons in a
cool, predominately abstract style.
Born
in Enniskillen in 1966, Jonny McEwen began painting in 1986 and first
exhibited in 1991. A Graduate of the Art College in Belfast, he has
exhibited widely in Ireland, England, Wales and Germany including three
one-person shows. Since returning from his travels in Eastern and
Central Europe in 1997 Jonny has instigated and piloted an artist in
residence scheme at the Corrymeela centre in Ballycastle, before
returning to set up studio in Belfast.
Jonny
McEwen is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after artists by
collectors of contemporary Irish art and is sure to consolidate this new
position in the coming years. McEwen's work has been recently acquired
by the Office of Public Works and University College Cork.
