Born in Barcelona, Mercè studied Ceramics and Sculpture at Massana School of Art & Design 1990-93. She has lived in Ireland since 2002. She is studying Design in Glass at NCAD Dublin. She won an award at Sculpture in Context 2015.

Her work is inspired by Greco-Roman mythological archetypes that are close to her Spanish background; incorporating elements of Celtic mythology and literature. She explores themes from both cultures in particular, the human figure, horses and bulls. Ancient Mediterranean Sculpture has been a considerable influence from which she has developed technical skills and her own artistic language.

Even though Caňadell has worked with wax, bronze and carved wood as well as clay, her overall work is clearly informed by a formal training in ceramics.
