Sara studied Visual Communications at the NCAD graduating in 1984. She worked abroad as a designer until 2000, when she undertook a City and Guilds Ceramics course in Cork and was subsequently awarded a bursary.

Sara enjoys the challenge of portraying her natural environment in porcelain, images actually created from their constituent parts, earth (clay), sand (glaze) rocks (pigments). The work often depicts expanses of sand, sea and sky, with distant horizons and detailed foregrounds creating a three-dimensional effect, a sense of calm isolation drawing the viewer deep into the landscape and beyond.

In 2013, Sara won an Irish Ceramic Award and she won The People’s Prize Award, at 'The Art of Craft', Northern Ireland.

Sara has exhibited widely throughout Ireland as well as in France, Scotland and Newfoundland. In 2014 Sara was one of six Irish artists who were invited to exhibit at Sarala's Art World, the oldest gallery in Chennai, Southern India.

Sara's work is to be found in many private collections both in Ireland and abroad.
