Tara Butler-Frey grew up by the coast in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin. Now living in rural Co. Offaly by the bog lands, she taps into the surrounding landscape as her primary source of inspiration.
Tara is a ceramic artist and designer working from her own studio. She graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2013 with an Honours Degree in Craft Design – Specialising in Ceramics, and returned to NCAD as Artist in Residence 2014 - 2015. She is currently pursuing a Professional Master’s Degree at NCAD.
Using a variety of techniques and mixed materials, Tara hand builds one-off sculptural pieces. The surfaces are treated with slips, glazes and combustible materials, working together to capture the descriptive textures and colours of a landscape and natural environment.

Tara’s work can be found in many private collections and has been shown in galleries across Ireland and in the UK. She is among the first four Irish ceramic artists to be invited to showcase at the British Ceramic Biennial in Stoke-on-Trent, 2015. She has also worked on commissions and art projects within various community groups and schools.
