Maighread Tobin studied fine art (sculpture) and graduated from LSAD Limerick in 1981. Her work is represented in the National Self Portrait collection, University of Limerick, and the National Drawing collection, Limerick City Gallery of Art, Arts Council of Ireland.

Maighread has been a regular exhibitor in Ireland with many solo shows in Hallward Gallery Dublin, Bourn Vincent and Belltable in Limerick and has been a regular invited artist at the RHA (award winner), Boyle, Eigse and Oireachtas (award winner) annual shows. She has also exhibited in numerous groups shows in Ireland and internationally at shows in China, Germany, Italy and France. Her sculpture and paintings are part of many public and private collections.

Maighread’s work over the last number of years has mostly been influenced by her deep connection with landscape and her garden which is a constant source of stimulation for her painting. There is a dialogue between both practices with one often informing the other. Her painting plays with structures and shapes, modifying and refining them; colour pallet and texture and the simplification of perspectives are important elements.
