Petr Holecek was born in Benesov, Czech Republic. He graduated in 2001 at University in Ceske Budejovice in Art and Civic Education. In 2003 he attended a drawing studies course at the National Gallery of Ireland. In 2004 Petr met Patrick O’Reilly and worked for a couple of years as an art assistant in his studio in Dublin. That was also a moment when he started to realize his ideas in bronze sculpting, mostly figurative. Petr is trying to find the inner intensity and humanity throughout body’s volume, its muscles and its movement.
He has exhibited extensively in Czech Republic, Poland and participated on many shows in Ireland including Royal Hibernian Academy and RUA annual exhibitions.
Work titled Qwak is permanently displayed in National Botanic Garden in Prague. Petr was awarded 2006 with Gold Medal at Art Biennale, Benesov, Czech Republic and 2010 with Mill Cove Award at the 25th Sculpture in Context Exhibition. Currently Petr lives and works between Prague and Dublin.
