Valerie is a Northern Ireland-based artist known for her expressive landscape paintings that capture the shifting light, weather, and moods of the Irish landscape. A graduate of the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee (BA Hons, Illustration, 1985), she spent over a decade in London working as a freelance illustrator before moving to Belfast in 1997. Valerie is currently Head of Art at Ashfield Girls’ High School, Belfast.

Since relocating to the Mourne Mountains in 2016, her work has been inspired by the surrounding land and seascapes of County Down and the Antrim Coast. She regularly exhibits across Ireland and the UK, with recent solo shows at ArtisAnn Gallery, Down Arts Centre, and Cultúrlann Belfast. Valerie also teaches acrylic, ink, and printmaking classes from her studio in the Mournes.
