David began their pottery career in 1987, studying Ceramics at Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design. Following this, he combined a love for ceramics and travel by working in ten potteries across Ireland, Canada, and Scotland, continually learning and refining his craft as a potter and ceramic artist.

In 1996, he established his own studio at Benbulben Pottery in Rathcormac, County Sligo, where he worked full-time until 2008 and has continued part-time since. He has been teaching pottery classes for many years, sharing his passion and skills with others.

His work is influenced by both classical and contemporary ceramic forms, focusing on the balance between aesthetic beauty and functionality. Figurative ceramics have always held a particular interest, with themes of humour and the human condition explored through a range of figurative pieces and "smoking angels."

More recently, his work has turned toward social commentary, examining themes such as justice, climate change, politics, and equality—subjects that connect with his background in social care. His artistic practice remains in a constant state of evolution, exploring new themes and techniques including oxidation, reduction, raku, and pit firings. This ever-changing approach reflects both the development of the ceramics and the artist.

In addition to ceramics, David is also a passionate musician, playing folk, trad, and rock music in several original bands, including Above and Below the Tide and Túsk, and has released several albums to date.
