Workshop Overview
Led by renowned ceramicists Jim Turner and Etain Hickey, this full-day masterclass offers a hands-on, immersive experience in handbuilding with paper clay, as well as surface decoration. Held in their fully equipped studio in West Cork, this workshop is ideal for ceramic artists, craftspeople, and designers who want to expand their technical repertoire.

What to Expect

Session 1 – Handbuilding with Paperclay
Facilitator: Jim Turner
Learn how to mix and work with paper clay sheets to form sculptural pieces, and how to combine these with traditional thrown elements.

Session 2 – Surface Decoration Techniques
Facilitator: Etain Hickey
Discover a range of decorative techniques using coloured slips and stains, including sgraffito, slip trailing, sponge work, and brushwork.

Hands-On Practice
Participants will:

Construct forms using pre-prepared paper clay sheets
Decorate unfired pieces using techniques demonstrated during the sessions
